Wegmans’ allure begins with its fresh-prepared subs

Many bloggers and other writers have shared why they love Wegmans. David Landsel, senior editor of Food & Wine magazine, spent an entire day at Wegmans’ new Montvale, N.J., store and explained in blog dated Oct. 10 why the retailer “is one of America’s best” supermarket chains.

First, Landsel raved about the made-to-order subs, which feature fresh-baked bread and come in three sizes, the largest so huge it could feed two to four people. Then he turned his attention to Wegmans’ store brands.

“Their house brand is one of the best marriages of quality and price you will ever find,” Landsel wrote, noting that he bought a 40-ounce sack of Wegmans organic granola for $8.99 that lasted him for weeks. The retailer’s prices for organic items, such as $2.99 for organic eggs with a loyalty card and $5.49 for a gallon of organic milk (roughly $6.50 at most other retailers in the area), are also an excellent value, he stated.

However, “the best thing about Wegmans is that they have everything,” Landsel concluded, noting that the chain successfully “manages to be all things to all people.”
