It’s been an eventful 2023 for Southeastern Grocers as the regional grocer enters 2024 on the precipice of closing the previously announced deal with Aldi that will see the Winn-Dixie and Harveys brand being absorbed by the German grocer in the coming weeks.

This past August, Aldi announced the acquisition of the two grocery store chains from SEG. The deal, once approved, will give Aldi access to an additional 400 stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Beyond this deal, which is expected to close in the first quarter of 2024, other notable highlights from SEG include the continued expansion of its private label assortment. This included the launch of Know & Love, a product line made with ingredients customers “know” that they will “love.”

The curated line prioritizes ingredients, quality and value that customers can trust, SEG officials said. Ingredients are selected for quality and every product is free from nearly 100 undesirable ingredients such as certified color additives, partially hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup and sweeteners such as aspartame, saccharin and sucralose.

With many products already available, the SEG Know & Love product line will continue to roll out gradually through 2024 – ultimately offering more than 1,000 clean label products including dairy, produce, ready-made foods, beverages and household items.

In addition to Know & Love, SEG’s private label efforts covers more than 8,000 items and offers savings of more than 20% when compared to national brands. The grocery in 2023 won more than 150 awards for its Own Brand products and market exclusive lines, including top recognition from grocery industry outlets, Store Brands and Progressive Grocer, in addition to World Dairy Expo and USA Wine, Beer and Spirits Ratings.

The grocer also continued to offer customers significant savings through the rewards program, which was included in Newsweek’s America’s Best Loyalty Programs list for the third consecutive year. To further help customers save time and money, SEG launched its new seasonal discount program to hold down the prices of most-shopped grocery essentials. The “Price Hold” program lowers prices on more than 1,000 popular items to help customers stretch their grocery budget when shopping items marked in blue Price Hold signage throughout Winn-Dixie stores.
