Lidl’s Skyr yogurt wins top honor in World Dairy Expo contest

Arlington, Va.-based Lidl, which has opened 24 stores in the United States and will open 13 more by the end of September, has been promoting its private brand food and beverage offerings as scoring very well in various competitions. The latest is the 2017 World Dairy Expo’s Championship Dairy Product Contest in Wisconsin, where Lidl’s Skyr yogurt was named the No. 1 yogurt in the country.

Lidl’s Skyr pomegranate mixed berry flavor came in first in the Open Flavor Yogurt category. The Icelandic-style yogurt is high in protein and low in sugar. Lidl sells varieties starting at 99 cents.

Skyr flavors available at Lidl include plain, vanilla bean, pomegranate mixed berry and strawberry.

Lidl won 16 medals in the contest, which included more than 1,400 products entered. Lidl won three gold medals for its cheese, and several others for its yogurt and ice cream.
